What are the system requirements for this program?

How do I navigate the program?

  • Click your browser's Back button to return to the previous screen.
  • To return to the home page, click the "The Complete Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook" in the left-hand corner of the screen.
To Browse by Book
  1. Click on the cover of a book in the bar that runs across the top of the screen.
  2. Browse the book's table of contents.
  3. Click on the scenario you'd like to view.
To Browse by Category
  1. Clink on the link on the left of the screen for the category you'd like to view.
  2. Browse the category's table of contents.
  3. Click on the scenario you'd like to read.
To Search
  1. Type the search term in the search box on the top right-hand corner of the screen. Do not use quotation marks to separate terms.
  2. Press the arrow to begin the search.
  3. Click on the scenario you'd like to view.
To Print a Scenario

Option 1: Click the print icon from the Adobe® toolbar at the top of the screen.

Option 2: Select "print" in the File drop-down menu.

When I click on a scenario, my browser crashes.

Your browser software may be out of date, or you may be using an unsupported browser. Consult the System Requirements for recommendations.

My browser crashes when I run a search.

Your computer may not have enough RAM to effectively run the search, or you may not have the latest version of JavaScript loaded. Consult the System Requirements for additional recommendations.

When I click on a scenario, a new screen loads but I can't see the scenario.

To view the scenarios, your computer must be equipped with Adobe® Reader® 4.0 and later. This is a free program that can be downloaded or updated here http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

Nothing happens when I press the arrow after entering a search term.

JavaScript 1.2 or later must be enabled in order to use the Search feature. Consult your browser's Help section for information on how to enable JavaScript, or upgrade your browser to a version that supports JavaScript 1.2 or higher (see the list of recommended browsers in System Requirements).

When I insert the CD-ROM, a dialog box opens warning me about the use of active content in the program. What does this mean?

This program uses JavaScript to enhance the Search feature and other interactive functions. The scripts employed by this program are not harmful to your computer and will not reveal any of your personal information.

My searches do not bring the desired results.

For best results, do not put quotation marks around the search term.

I can't see the full screen at once.

This program is best viewed at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. To reset your screen resolution in Windows®, right click on your desktop. Choose "Properties" from the drop-down menu, then choose the "Settings" tab in the Properties control panel. In the Screen Resolution section, move the slider to 1024 x 768 or higher.

To reset your screen resolution in Mac OS X®, open your "System Preferences" panel and choose "Displays." Select a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher.
